So as I sit housebound with my two small fry wathcing it pour rain, reflecting on Sara's snow, I am wondering what do people in the midwest do with their kids when they can't go outside for days....weeks even? Of course you folks have the appropriate gear no doubt. But how do you not strangle them when the cabin fever sets in?
Oh and because P. and I lived in Indiana for three years I feel entitled to say, can you believe Bobby Knight quit? How weird was that? What a very peculiar individual.
And not to be competitive or anything, but I just made my 1000th post on Camp Smum. Granted Patrick and I got a head start (2004), but still.......

Congrats on the 1K posting. Regarding the cabin fever thing - send them out into the stuff. In my fatherly role of days past, nothing took it out of the short ones like battling the elements in pursuit of winter fun. And yes, they need the gear. But it's better than covering them with velcro and sticking them to the wall.
Since we are on our third snow day of this WEEK, that is what we did yesterday. Sent them out with shovels and sleds. Nothing like red cheeks to say I'm tired and cold. Today another snow day because they are still cleaning up the 14 inches from the last two days. Our kids will be in school until July at this rate. Oh well, family togetherness I guess. This morning I made the three clean and sort the walk in toy closet. I haven't tried the velcro though so if we have another week like this I might.
hey guys thanks for the ideas. I know snow makes things more difficult, but some how is seems friendlier for kids. The rains and wind we've been having here in WA state are sooooo nasty. Yes, let's here it for family togetherness.
The velcro idea. I think it could have potential.....
