News from Red Wing
Well, Anderson kids...I have joined the angiogram group...only Judy is left.
Had an angiogram at the U of M yesterday. Kind of good news, have a 60% blockage in one area and 70-80% blockage in another area....hard to explain but the 70% blockage is in a lower area of the artery and they don't make stents that small to fix it and also it is on the end of the artery. (Doctor talk) This is probably what is causing some tightness when I walk, dance etc. At this time I have to have additional medication, walk more plus watch my diet. Figure I can do that except I don't tolerate medication very well. Crazy thing...I had a nuclear stress test in July....I thought I had passed it but my Dr. could see that their was a change from before and that was confirmed by the radiologist. He compared it to my test taken 3 years ago and said there was definitely some change...consequently the angiogram. Left at 5 yesterday morning....had my test at 10ish...in the room by 12ish, laid very still for 2 hours and on my way home by 2:30. Told me I could stay longer but figured I could sleep at home as well as the hospital. Lisa was at the hospital with us....told her to go to work but her company (Medtronic) and her boss are very good about letting his staff off for family. It helps having someone younger to comprehend what the Doctor is saying....My nurse (AL) is trying to keep me somewhat quiet today, I am confined to my chair ....went down the hall to Sterlings for coffee this morning and he found me. Right now he is putting our sweet pickles away in the laundry room.....we canned them on Thursday (4 quarts and 26 pints) Mom's sweet pickles....we got beautiful cukes at the farmer's market in Alexandria .....so made dills, bread and butter and now finished the sweets. Just call us the Thies pickle factory.
Thanks Orrin for sending the papers on the Veteran's memorial in Hardwick. Very nice.
We are headed to Waukon for Al's class reunion over Labor Day...and then hopefully, the phone will ring and I will beable to do some subbing again in Special Ed at any off the schools in Red Wing. Al will most definitely be subbing again at the high school...they have already told him they will be calling him. Gives us money to spend in Arizona......
Enough rambling. Please keep writing on the blog....feel we are more connected if we can at least keep each other up to date on our lives.....
Love to all....

HOT IDAHO
As Judy and Jayne can testify we are having a HEAT WAVE. It is almost 100 today and tomorrow. If the Johnsons cool down we will cool off we usually get it the next day.
Tim and Deb brought her parents (Carol and Bert) up to visit the house Tim purchased in Bayview Washington about 20 miles north of us on Lake Pond Orelle. They wanted a place on a lake where they could get a break from the Arizona HEAT; and they have come when we are having our hottest days of the summer. The fortunate thing we have going is it does cools down in the evening.
Some of you don't know Dennis has been sick. The Dr put him in the hospital and checked him inside and out. His blood was way down to 11 and it should have been about 30. He had 4 units of blood and a lot of salane solution for dehydration. Kathy (Dens sister) and husband came out. She wanted to check out Dennis for herself. He is doing better; but with his weight loss he is showing his age.
I am working a couple days next week; which is alway good to stimulate the brain.
Congradulation on your business Tad. We will try to find you come clients.
Love to all,
Joan

Open For Business
The Runway Company is open for business. Actually, we're coming up on our 3rd year, but we just moved our offices and joined the chamber of commerce. The photo is our ribbon cutting. You might notice a familiar face holding the ribbon on the left. He's been one of our biggest supporters. I'm the chubby one with the blue tie. My partner is holding the other end of the gargantuan Fiskars. Anyhow, we're an advertising agency that has all the answers to all the marketing problems in the world (or at least the continental US).

Prior to our big event, we were hiding on the 2nd floor of a downtown office building - coming to work in t-shirts and jeans every day. All our clients were out of town. But since we're amazing advertising professionals, we came to the brilliant conclusion that we need some local business too. So we got out the suits and are busy beating the streets for people who want to give us money. Did you know that half of all advertising dollars are wasted? It's true. You just need someone to help you figure out which half! So here we are. www.therunwaycompany.com
I haven't posted in a while, so thought I'd share the news. We sold one house, so that's been a relief. I guess I need to start going back to the gym now that I have all this free time. Busy now with preparing for the LifeLight Festival (www.lifelight.org) on Labor Day weekend. I help with marketing, some video production and coordinating the food vendors. Smoothies seem to be popular this year.
That's it for now. Send me all the contact info for your wealthy, business-owner friends who need advertising help. We pay generous finders fees . . . especially to family members.

Wind Generators
Jan
You are right that it is hard to think that you can see them. (generators) I had to pick up a driver in Luverne yesterday morning at 830 and go to Sioux Falls for a rental car. I tried to take the same picture in the morning. You can see a few of them on a clear day and was hoping that it would enlighten you all As of today I have to deliver a truck to Evensberg PA starting Thur morning and bring a truck back from Lancaster PA. If I would have not been gone Rosie and I would have went to Pat and Wes this weekend and tried some different things. I want to go back on a clear night and count the red light. In most cases when you drive alone you are limited to the hours behind the wheel and must take a 8 hour break. Do any of you have a cd camera with a telaphoto lens?

Hardwick lights
I can't believe that you can see lights that far away, however, I remember sitting on Chuck and Claire's back deck and Chuck pointed out that the lights on the horizon were from Hwy 75. I know that it closer than Chandler but it is really weird.
From the way it sounds you have been busy driving around the country. I bet you enjoy that. Don't you get to stay over a night and head back the next day?
Hi to Rosie...
Hugs, Jan

East of Hardwick
Hi All
A Week ago I delivered a truck to Houston TX with another driver from Luverne. As we left from Luverne that is where my pickup was parked. We returen to Luverne about 2 in the morning and I headed to Tracy by going to Pipestone. It was a clear night and as I passed Hardwick on 75 I looked east over Hardwick I thought this would be of interest to you all. Last night I was returning from delivering a truck to Denver CO and was headed to Tracy going up 75 about 1200 midnight. I stoped in a driveway about a 1/2 mile south of the Hardwick corner and tried to take a picture with my CD camra. What you see did not show up . What is it? As you look over Hardwick from 75 you see all the red light of the wind generators on Buffalo Ridge around Chandler. It is amasing hoe close they look. You would think they are like in Clara's backyard. Next time you are home you need to try to make time to look at this
. By the way the Mag Steak House is for sale

Hi to everyone. Milt and I are doing well and have been on vacation since July 22. We went to Springfield Mo to see Milts sister Viola. She is in a rest home there, we stayed with her daughter Lola. From Mo we went to Burlington Co to spend time with Milts family and attend a family reunion on the weekend. Even got to go on an old fashion hay ride. Milt is still in Burlington this week attending the county fair and I am at Danette and Genes by Co Springs. Milt will be here Saturday, we will stay until the last of next week.
I always enjoy reading the blog. Also enjoyed the picture of the Hardwick School Kids, seeing some of my cousins on the other side.
I have a new email address but on vacation my old one is working better. My new email address is mcschaal@sio.midco.net

Happy Anniversary!!
Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad! 46 years ago....I think it was Jack who passed out, not sure who you said caught the bouqet but from a picture it looks like Auntie Karen.
I have been trying to upload the picture of you two in the car leaving after the wedding. Not sure who was driving the car but there were lots of flowers on the car and it looks like Uncle Dennis was in the front passenger seat.
I will try again tomorrow to load the picture.....it's become a mission bordering on obsession.
LOVE YOU LOTS!!
Lisa

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JAN AND AL
I suppose you are cleaning and packing up on your anniversary. Anyway, have a good day.
We have a heat wave coming our way; so guess we will have to turn on the air. Our apple trees have grown enough that they do give up some protection from the afternoon sun.
Sara, you have a very busy life; how do you know who is going where; do you have a chart?
Thomas, congradultation on your climbing the wall. Happy Birthday to Katherine. It sounds like Grannie Judy will be drinking lots of tea when she comes to visit.
Angie, what is your family doing this summer. Running races?
I really enjoy hearing from you all on this blog and your own; frogs and all.
Tad, have you moved and Orrin why don't you write on the blog?
Have a happy August.
Love ya Joan

Toad
Thats why I did not mind having girls......no toads in the house...Just STUFF !!!
Sara did not mention the frog that came home in Josh's golf bag from the golf course.
Josh had to have some critter to play with after the 5 turtles were turned loose.
The frog eventually got away OR was eaten by Brooke the dog.....
Oh the life of a 13 year old...
Hugs to all,
Jan the Third

The Ledge
One note from yesterday that lead to some excitement in the Mentzer house last evening. When I came home with Isabelle from running errands Josh and BJ (Josh's best friend who spent the last 55 hours straight with Josh) were up to something. They were laughing and kind of looking by the stairs. After repeated attempts to get a response to "is everything ok guys?" all I could get was a "yeah, yeah..its good". Fast forward to late last night. I'm folding laundry and the dog is frantically going back and forth from me in the living room to the front door. Then she has her nose buried under the table in the entry. I finally answer her plea for help thinking she has a tennis ball stuck under the table. I look by it..nothing..I look under it only to gasp as I see a large shadow on the floor, against the wall under the bottom shelf. I of course yell for Josh and announce the largest bug I have ever seen is under the table. He lays down, reaches to grab it and laughs as he says "its a TOAD". He throws it in the garage (which I correct him and demand he get it out of the garage and take it outside) and continues laughing.
The kicker to the entire thing was when I said "oh, this is what you and BJ were doing this afternoon....you snuck a toad you found outside into the house?" "Yeah, we brought it to my room and were playing with it and then lost it". I asked how you lose a toad with two of you playing with it. "Well, we were throwing it up on the ledge and somehow we lost track of it". This folks is the ledge....above our front door. How it got down I can only guess one leap to the carpeted steps and a few hops to under the table. PETA folks rest assured it now lives happily in our bushes...free to roam and hop for cover when the dog is out. You have to give it to good old fashion creativity and fun.
