Idaho Snow

The two spots are the dogs in the back yard. More snow predicted for Wednesday

Sorry Judy

Sorry Judy....I cut and pasted your e-mail before I checked the blog. Hey, now you can be posted twice.....
Sister Ja #3

Judy's plan via Jan's e-mail...

Where there is a will, there is a way

Good Evening all,

I am here at the computer and it is pouring rain outside, however, that sure beats the snow and ice that many of you are having. We have had snow and below freezing. Seems the dripping faucet and open doors below sinks has now been put to good use in the Northwest. Jayne said to me the other day that she wondered if that was taught to us in school if we were brought up in the cold winter states. I told her that it was a helpful hint passed down by parents.

My Christmas plan was to go to Jayne and Patricks for Christmas. Mother Nature is making a big statement by keeping Portland covered in snow and now adding ice to the mix. I heard on NPR (local news) that Amtrak had even cancelled the run between Portland and Seattle. I didn't send the presents ahead so when I go up after the snow and when Patrick is in Iran, I will take Christmas with me. I haven't been in Tacoma for awhile....did see all the kids and their families during Thanksgiving in Portland. This is Janna and Rivers year to spend with his Mom and spouse, however they may not even make it to Portland.

Janna called earlier and said that their furnace had stopped heating (not a good time to do that). They were able to find a repair person, however they are blessed with a very old furnace and they must plan on having it replaced soon. I think they will notice a big improvement in the efficiency of the newer models.

Please hug all your children, etc. for me. I love hearing about them and their adventures. Hopefully, in the not too distant future I will be able to finally work out a way to get on the blog. I check via Jayne's blog every day. thanks everyone.

O, say hello to Patti Woodworth. One of these days I will get an e-mail to her. Her name was mentioned in the business section of the local paper early this fall when the stocks and bonds started going elsewhere than up.

To each and every one of you, the blessings of Christmas and a great New Year. Dona Noblis Pacem!

Love, Judy

From Tracy

We just received over 6 ins. of snow with a strong north wind over the weekend. Yes the Temp went down over the weekend It did warm up yesterday as it was -6 at 6:00 PM with a wind chill of -24. The wind chill was -45 at 7:00 AM. We have gotten more snow so far this year than we got the last two years. I think they shut off all the windmills on Buffalo Ridge.

Angie and her family will be coming home Wensdays PM. We will open a gift and then have a Anderson traditional Christmas Eve lunch. Butter BBQ Pork sandwiches, Orange jello, and chips. Mike and his family will come Christmas morning and we will have dinner and open gifts. Angie and the family are staying all weekend but I think Mike and family will be going home that PM. Dinner will be the same as what we had for t-day. Hope you all have a fun time and stay warm.

Christmas in Idaho 2008

Here is the latest from COLD SNOWY IDAHO.
We are scheduled to have Gretch and Andy here to celebrate Christmas Eve. Dennis will fix prime rib. VERY EARLY on Christmas Day we fly to Arizona where Tim and Deb will pick us up and we will have dinner with Deb's parents. We fly from Spokane to Seattle and then to Arizona. With the weather the way it is going it is questionable where we will be. We will go to the Resort sometime that week. We are trying to find out when we can get together with Steven and Amanda.
I know we are leaving Thursday, however my boots are in the motor home in Arizona; and my feet are cold when I go outside so I invested in some new boots.
Have a Blessed Christmas. Joan#2

Christmas 2008

Merry Christmas everyone.....
We had snow in Red Wing but not like you did Joan. Sure glad I don't have to shovel that !!!
Here's a challenge to everyone....post your Christmas plans.....please.
Feel this is the only way to stay connected.
We are going to Sara's Christmas morning.....staying until Sunday and weather permitting, we will head south. Lisa, Andy and Cooper will also come on Christmas morning. Sing at church Christmas eve....Al said this definitely is his last year singing in church choir....he says this every year so we will see.
Love to all,

IDAHO WINTER 2008

The tv channels are giving a play by play discription of the snow storm. It is in the teens and has been snowing over 25 hours. It is stuck over Spokane and Coeur d' Alene. The airport is almost closed, the biggest hospital canceled some surgeries. They say don't go out unless you need to. The snow plow hasn't even been by our house. If we went to the store etc. we could get down the hill; but I don't think we could get up the hill to get home. Schools closed all over etc.
Even the interestate is bad.

SINGLE DIGET TEMPS

I've always bragged about the mild winters in Idaho. Well I'm wrong. We had just a little snow on top of frozen rain and then this VERY VERY cold weather that came down from the north .
It is to last the week with possible snow. Dennis and I were driving to Portland for a meeting , Staff Christmas Party and sell some of Dens books to a very large book store; however Portlands weather is worse than here. Many schools closed and possible snow mid-week. Portland is paralized; so Dens meeting and Staff Party are canceled. It is so much like the cold Minnesota weather with the sun shinning; but the ice cracks as cars drive. And I have some much clothing on its hard to move.
To bad as Judy was going to drive to Portland and we have some Christmas time.
So Sarah we didn't get the snow storm. It is 55 degrees in Arizona with rain in the forcast.
We will be going to Phx on Christmas Day. Christmas Eve we will have with Andy and Gretch.
Guess this is it for now.

Six Months

Not to dominate a festive holiday time with an anniversary but today marks six months since the flood hit Cedar Rapids. It has changed life and it has only been six months. Pretty wild! The team put together for flood recovery did a news conference yesterday to update the community on what has been done and rebuilding plans. It was about 45 minutes long but there is a clip that includes my now overly quoted line on kcrg.com. If you click on video you can watch the report which is about a minute long. http://www.kcrg.com/news/local/36075544.html

I'm envious of Aunt Joan's snow storm. I would like one when we don't have to be somewhere. We had a "snow" day Tuesday but it was more an "ice day". Back to where we were last year...covered in ice. And speaking of the floods which were suppose to have been caused partly from the strong winter......we are 5 inches ahead of last year already. So, how do you spend an ice day off of school? Nate spent some time on the computer in between dribbling a basketball and watching some tv. Speaking of wearing hats all the time Jayne........I have the companion to Miss Kitty!

Isabelle got dressed only because her friend across the street asked her to come over and play. She would have worn these pajamas all day if I'd let her.

The dog took a nap on the loveseat she is not suppose to be on and usually only sneaks to when we are out of the house. We obviously altered her routine with the ice day.

No picture of Josh. He slept most of the day....and he needed it so that was a good thing.

He did have a basketball tournament this week-end and that has kept him busy along with us since Nate had practice in Ames today, Isabelle and a 2 1/2 hour dress rehearsal for the Christmas program at church, we went to one of Josh's teammates house for soup and drinks after the game then everyone went to the Linn Mar game tonight. Nate now has a friend staying over. Tomorrow...the Christmas program...dancing, singing and everything. Josh finishes his tourney and hopefully by afternoon I can start working on wrapping presents, baking and writing Christmas cards.

SNOW SNOW SNOW

We are having a snow storm and they give minute by minute forecasts. The temp is to drop into the teens with lots of wind; this is very unusual for us as it usually staying around 30's. It always amazes me how warm the house feels when it snows. Dennis is going out to blow the driveway.
We are to have company for dinner tonight; but may cancel. People of our age don't have to be out on the roads. Boy, do I sound old.
Well in case we have company I'd better get some cleaning done.
Bob, I made three batches of lefse this week. I do like that recipe.
Tad, would like to hear more about your trip when you have time.

I have tried to upload the recipe but the blog will not let me. If anyone want the recipe send me an e-mail at rsanderson@iw.net. Will send it to you as I did number 2

Bob (TBS)

Let's try again....Thanksgiving at Lisa and Andys.

The menu sounds much like the one we had at the Skov's with the exception of no ham.
Also had the green bean casserole, carrots with butter, sugar and a titch of orange, and the 7 layer salad. I would post a picture but I am not sure how to do it..plus I am subbing at one of the elementary schools and I have 10 minutes of free time.
We had Sara and Mark and 3 kids, 1 dog, Brooke, Al and I, and Andy's dad and his new wife, Janis plus Lisa, Andy and Cooper. Very nice day and way to much food but we managed to make a big dent. Andy always makes white and dark dinner rolls and of course, they were consummed by the kids along with the pickles. Does that sound familiar? The Mentzer's left on Saturday and Sara called Sunday night and said they were having their first big snowstorm and wind in Iowa. Glad they left early. Al and I showed Lisa how to make Judy's lefsa and will show Sara at Christmas time. Gets crazy if to many people around when making it. Actually, used the left over mashed potatoes after I used the rice potatoes. Could not tell the difference.
Can you post your lefsa recipe Bob?
Again, Hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving. How fortunate we are that we grew up with good Thanksgiving memories.....can you just hear the politicial arguments Lou and Agnes would have in today's world. WOW !
Love to all.....

T-Day in Tracy

This is the start on the 23 of Nov. The girls (Loren, Sam, Angie and Rose, Just can't seem to get enought so this year I made 4 Dz. Cooked the potatoes Sat night, riced them and mixed in the salt , sugar, butter and cream. Let it set in a very cool place overnight, Mixed in the flour before I rolled it out. I think one of mt best batches.

They said that they did not want thirds

We are going to wait until later for the pie. Spud is the pie maker. The menu is the standard Tracy T-day one. Turkey with gravy, Ham with gravy, Garlic mashed potatoes (Mike makes), Home frozen creamed corn, CA blend (Spud makes), Sage and Giblet dressing (Not sure how to turn off the change in the typing), Buns (white and dark), Lefsa, Choc or white milk, and as you can see Wine. (This year it was a White and red Ausie wine) Not bad if you added 7 up to the red.Too much Turkey
WE ALL WISH YOU A HAPPY T-DAY from South West MN (the best part of SD)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving from Minnesota!

The day before Thanksgiving we head to the Mall of America to spend the day riding rides. If we can, the adults slip away to do a little shopping.

The American Girl store recently opened and the "ladies" headed to a late lunch there. The "men" decided burgers, fries and rides sounded much better.

Isabelle did convince her dad that it was ok for her to try the upside down rollercoaster. We thought it would scare her and we would have enough of that conversation. We were wrong. The qoute off the ride "That was AWESOME!"

Josh helped a tired Cooper!

Nana got to ride a ride!

Look who found us at the Mall!

Hope everyone had a safe holiday!

Does anyone remember the "Candy Thermometer; box and all? I just made peanut brittle with it on 11-24-08

Reunion

Can you believe it has been almost a year since we were together in Mankato.

Hi from Carol

I so enjoy reading the blog, so here is my input. I got a good report when I had my routine cancer check up last week, so don't go back for 4 months.
I have Happy news to report about Gene and Danette, they are in the process of adopting a baby girl to be born the first part of December. They are getting her from Sioux Falls so will be staying with us. We are so happy for them, so pray that everything turns out well.
Will let you all know when she is born.
Rons daughter Emily is engaged and planning an Oct 2009 wedding. Ashley Stans daughter also has a steady boyfriend. The boys chose to be single for now.
Milt and I are doing well. We took a trip to Arizona last part of Sept. to see Louis's wife Connie. They had just moved down there 10 months before he died. We really enjoyed the trip, flew into Las Vegus and Connie picked us up to go to Golden Valley. We got to see Hoover Dam while there too.
We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Love Milt and Carol

Idaho II

My message didn't stay with the picture. These are leaves to be raked and picked up; with many leaves still on the tree.
Today the sun is shinning for the first time this week; and I am going to work for the day. Dennis has been at Seaside Oregon. It has rained and rained so that when the tide was in the river flooded the roads.
We have had snow in the higher elevation so the skiiers are excited.
This goes with the picture of the leaves.

Veterans Day

This AM Dennis and I attended a Veterans Day ceremony at Jonathans middle school.
I was very impressed with the conduct of the students and the program. THe band and the orchestra played and 2 students put together a power point on their Dads in Iraq.
The music does a great job of getting music out of the kids.
Elections are finally over. I wonder if anyone really knows what they are getting into working so hard for that position. I sure hope something is done to limit the time one can campaign for any office. Two years and all that money spent is to long
and too much.
Tad, We have friends (The Bresemanns) whose son and daughter in law and 5 children have gone to Indonesia on a mission trip. David is on a mission committee.(I'm not sure what church affiliation they are with Have you come accross the name? It sounds like an exciting adventure.
It sure is looking like Falls here. The leaves are falling and there is a dusting of snow on the mountain tops.
Have a good week.
Joan.

Greetings From Jakarta

Hello, this is Tad posting from Indonesia. I am here on a mission trip. I'd rather not post exactly what we're doing as I don't know if internet use is monitored here.

Today I spoke in a church with the help of an interpreter. It was very awkward, but seemed to be well received. I had a sense that everything about the service was just as church at home. Just couldn't understand the language.

There are 24 of us here from all over the U.S. and other parts of the world. So have met many people including the local mission workers who are very friendly, helpful and committed.

The photo above is a couple that helped me with the church presentation today. Maruli and Tetty are on the left and right sides. Maruli is a retired commercial banker in Indonesia. In the center is Hosea, a pastor and my interpreter for the day. He has done interpreting for many famous Christian evangelists including Billy Graham. So felt honored to meet and work with him.

I will be here for another 14 days. So will post some more info. If you are so inclined, please pray for our safety and success here. Blessings, Tad

PS - Yes, Uncle Bob . . . I voted before I left.

Vote

When I was younger Gram pa Elmer said that if you don't vote you can't complain about who is elected. The other day it came to me that I might have to deliver a fire truck on election day. So I did some checking and did the absentee voting. Now I can watch TV and tune out all the information that is being put out there. But you young Anderson need to get out there and vote and after that we can tell you that you voted wrong. Right sisters and brothers ?

Bob (TBS)

PS: The Vikes did not play today so is that a win?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

As you can see Loren is feeding Gizmo and Farley. What is it that she is letting them lick of her hands and arms? Home made ice cream. Her and Gram ma Jean had just finished cleaning up the insert of the ice cream machine. It was strawberry
It was Colton's birthday party and I'm not sure what they are doing in this picture. I think Angie had them looking at her

This is a view of the ship in harbour in Newport taken from the Trinity Church.

Bob's Double

I did a double take when I saw this man on the ship.

VACATION

After a long bus ride we ended up at the pier in Brooklyn to board the ship. I couldn't believe that the bus driver got lost on our way to the ship.
We left Brookly on Sunday eve and sailed to Halifax. We made 4 other stops on the way back to Brooklyn. Our favorite was Bar Harbor. The colors were great, the tour guide was fabulous. The tour included a Lobster Feed. Newport RI is ver rich; but very Colonial in buildings etc.
Well after Tucson and the wedding we closed up the motor home that we left at THE RESORT in Mesa.
We flew to NYC and had a day and a half sightseeing, dinner and going to the theater.
We saw Mary Poppins. It was great. Just a little different than the movie. The cast was great and the scene changes are ingredible. It was just a little different than the movie.

Delores Pedersen

Hi Everyone.....
Just heard that Delores has been moved to a care facility? Does anyone know what happened OR do any of you have Clare Ann's telephone number?
Absolutely, the most gorgeous day in Red Wing, the trees are at their peek...and the colors take your breath away. Lots and lots of people visiting the Fall Art Festival downtown....hopefully, spending their money. Suppose to be nice, one more day and then the rain and wind....the leaves will really go then......
Happy Fall to all.....

ARIZONA

Here we sit in SUNNY, HOT Arizona. It does cool down at night; but sure warms up during the day. At present we are at Catalina State Park, just north of Tucson. I had never been here before; so another first for me. Dennis had 4 services and a banquet type speech on Sat and Sunday. There are still a lot of people we know and it was good to see them. The current pastor was one of the vicars when were here. After Dennis had a nap we drove to Litl Abners. A steak house that cooks the steak on a open grill with mesquite wood. Nothings has changed. The decor is the same and the steaks still good. Litl Abners was originally a stagecoach stop and it was WAY out in the country.
It was the first place someone took us to when we visited here YEARS ago. Now the developments have moved near them; but it hasn't changed a thing.
We left Idaho with the motor home Wed the 17. We had a good trip here. I even won 14.50 on a nickel machine in Mesquite NV. We spent one night in Mesa and picked up the Black Honda and on to Tucson. Al Coxen, a neighbor in Mesa, had the car already to go. We did have to put new tires on the motor home. UGH! but we must be safe.
On Tuesday we will return to Mesa where we step up and wait for everyone to start arriving for Steven and Amanda "wedding"
Guess this is it for now.
Joan
PS I have found my cell phone charger so I can now used my cell phone.

From Cedar Rapids

This picture is from the first day of school on August 22. Wow, almost a month ago! How time flies! The t-shirts for Nate and Isabelle are in honor of the opening of their new elementary school..Echo Hill. It is named Echo Hill because it is near the location where Rockwell engineers bounced the first video image off the Echo Satellite. This was the first step toward television. It is a beautiful new school to our rapidly growing district.

We are busy but it is mostly kids' activities and work. No fancy vacations like Tad or Aunt Joan!

Josh is in 7th grade. He is on the football team (loves it), plays AAU basketball (which means he has a football game Tuesday nights and then hurries to a basketball game), is in the band and choir and just made jazz band in both percussion and piano. He someone manages straight As with this schedule and I don't know how he does it. Especially since social life is critical at this age.

Nate is playing soccer through a club he has been in the past 3 years. He was named a captain for this year. We've been to Omaha over Labor Day and we are on our way to Chicago for a tournament. Madison, WI coming next month. He is also still playing basketball through his club team out of Ames, IA. He had tryouts in August and made the top of the two teams they select. Just eight kids from across the state on each team. This is the team that won the USSSA National Championship in July and he REALLy likes the boys on the team. They have a lot of fun together despite the competitive environment. Nate is in 4th grade and doing great in school. He doesn't enjoy it as much as Josh but does well and has more friends around than I can count.

Isabelle LOVES kindergarten. I mean LOVES it. She can't wait to get up in the morning and is full of all stories when coming home. It is so much fun to listen to her explain her day. She is in two dance classes and does gymnastics and dances all the time. I mean all the time.

Mark and I are busy with work. The flood recovery continues in my world which means meetings and meetings and meetings while trying to figure out the federal government. Crazy world. Met Nancy Pelosi last week. Senator Mccain was in today with Sarah Palin. Daily circus.

We have a family blog now. www.HouseOfNorse.blogspot.com. Tad, I don't know how to add it to the links on the side by Jayne's. Jayne, you are my inspiration on this!

Hope everyone is well! Write often,,,I check every day. Love to read the updates.

TRAVELING

This afternoon as we were driving on I-15 heading south I wrote a note.
Unfortunately we passed by a dead spot and I lost the connection. Now we are parked at a Indian Cassino south of Idaho Falls Idaho so I will try it again.
We have so much "stuff" for the next three weeks and then many items for our winter stay.
I was thinking we have everything in the motor home but the kitchen sink; and actually we do have the kitchen sink with us.
Anyway we should get to Az on Friday.
Talk to you soon.
Joan

Sound busy

Golly Joan....you guys are REALLY busy. Glad you clarified which one was Dennis and which one the moose....Sorry Dennis!!!! You look like you are feeling much better....Will have to look for the book..sounds fun.
Anyone else as busy as the Lorenz's? Thats probably why no one has written on this wonderful blog.....

Coeur d' Alene's newest resident

Mudge and Minnie by the library.
Last Saturday Mudge the Moose and Millie the Mouse arrived in CDA. Mudge and Millie are playing Hide and Seek and they hit the high spots in the downtown area of CDA. Starting at Tubbs Hill then on to the new Library. From here they go down Sherman Ave (CDA'S main street) to the Floating Boadwalk and to the City Park for a nap. They end up at Independence Point where the mouse falls out of Mudges antlers. The whole trip Mudge carried Millie on the tour. If you look closely you can see the white mouse in the antlers. The person standing next to Mudge and Millie is, of course, Dennis. Iwanted you to see how tall the modles are. The moose sure looks cuter than a real moose that we had walk thu the neighborhood this summer.

I don't know if your local libraries have the new book; but it was written by Susan Nipp, a local author. I think it is great idea and a way for people to take a walk with their children. I guess it is about a 2 mile walk.

We are leaving Idaho this Wednesday for Tucson where Dennis preaches for someting in Tucson. From there we go to Mesa where we will park the motor home and go to Steven and Amanda's wedding renewal. The next weekend we will be going to NYC with Tim and Deb for sightseeing for two days and then board a cruise for the New England Area. We will be gone from Idaho about a month; but we have our computer and cell phones with us.

Had my yearly check up with my cardologist today and everything is fine.

Happy Birthday to all the September Birthdays.

Yo from No. Carolina

We're on vacation at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.

Leah and I learned to ride Segways and we toured the estate grounds on our funky new ride.
